The challenges involved in formulating products can be overcome by the inclusion of specifically designed monomers. Monomers used in these applications can act as diluents or actively participate in forming a polymer matrix. To modify the polymer matrix, you must know what monomers can be added in what quantities to achieve the desired properties. The process of identifying the correct molecule with the correct purity and inhibitor level is difficult. Allow Esstech, Inc. to simplify the process.
Acetoacetoxy ethyl methacrylate, also known as AAEMA, is a low viscosity, monofunctional methacrylate. The two ketone groups in its' backbone can chelate various cations allowing for adhesion between methacrylate resins or plastics and metals. The homopolymer of acetoacetoxyethyl methacrylate has a low Tg creating the potential for use as a toughening agent in polymer systems. CAS # 21282-97-3
Hydroxyethyl methacrylate or HEMA is a high purity methacrylate monomer with many applications including: contact lenses, anaerobic adhesives, light-curing systems and high performance coatings.
HEMA is a primary alcohol making it a good adhesion promoter in anaerobic adhesives. The purity level of this methacrylate monomer also makes it cost efficient.
HPMA or hydroxypropyl methacrylate contains a secondary alcohol group and is often considered to have less allergic reaction potential than other methacrylates. HPMA has been formulated in anaerobic adhesives and coatings. CAS # 27813-02-1
(2) Tetrahydrofurfuryl Methacrylate or THFMA is a polar methacrylate containing a five-membered heterocyclic group that works well as an adhesion promoter in anaerobic adhesive and other applications.
Trifluoroethyl methacrylate has a high purity and low refractive index. It is often used in photocrosslinkable compositions and contact lens applications.
The cyclic group of isobornyl methacrylate allows it to react in free radical polymerization while also acting as an excellent diluent.
